Riding the Bus

Today Grace finally got to ride the school bus.  She got her bus pass on Wednesday and figured that we should let her ride the bus on her first day of school.  David and I didn't quite see it that way... Especially since the bus stop is a mile from the house and we hadn't yet figured out all the details of getting her to the bus stop.  So, this morning David dropped us off near the bus stop on his way to work.

Letting my baby go all by herself to school...

My happy, independent little girl.

I had a lot of anxiety about this day.  First, letting a total stranger take my kid to school... yes, I know that bus drivers are generally safe drivers and have had background checks, but I don't know the person. Second, I have a 3 year old that I have to make walk a mile back to our apartment, and third, I'm still rather unfamiliar with this territory and am just a bit uneasy about the whole thing.  But, it all went off without a hitch, Grace got to school without any problem, and I only had one complaint from Tristan on the way home.  David is planning on riding his bike to work tomorrow so I can have the car for some orientation meetings I need to go to, so I'll take Grace to school  in the morning, but she'll get her wish to ride the bus again on the way home tomorrow (I picked her up today so we could go back to the pool).  But, the initial anxiety is over, I know how long it takes to get to the bus stop, I know the road we walk on is safe (it's under construction so there is very little traffic on it), and I know my son is agreeable to walking, so the next time we find ourselves without a vehicle, we know we are more than capable of getting Grace to and from school.

Wow, things sure look different than what I remember of Korea. Sorry we didn't get to see you off. Got busy the last few weeks, but let the kids know their fish are happy and healthy. It is great to know you guys are doing well. Have fun,

Wow Danielle! I just caught up on my blog reading and I am amazed at all that's happened in such a short time. Glad it's all going so well for you. I don't know if I could have put one of my girls on that bus or not - Grace is so cute and mature for her age.
