Right next to the history museum was the zoo. After our miserable experience at the zoo in Beijing, David and I weren't too excited about going, but we knew that the kids would enjoy seeing the animals.
The tram wasn't running, but we sure got a kick out of seeing John Deere green!
I had to post this - I have no idea what it is all about, but I couldn't be the only one with this ridiculous image emblazoned on my memory!
Young oryx with a unicorn in the background.
These old trees were just gorgeous! Not to mention gigantic.
We all decided we'd like to take this kitty home.
It wasn't much bigger than Malcolm, and by the looks of its paws it was done growing.
Still in velvet
This gal wanted to visit her neighbor.
White flamingos.
A great opportunity to talk about what makes flamingos pink.
I love throwing "school" in when they least expect it!
An escaped crocodile!!!
Not to fear, the Samuelson kids have got it under control!
A monkey with manners!
Sitting in a chair eating food off of a table.
After seeing the animals, it was time to go climb on a few prehistoric creatures.
While the zoo was not up to par according to America standards, we were pleasantly surprised. It was much better than the China zoo and I didn't walk away from it feeling that the animals were in a totally hopeless situation. And, most importantly, the kids enjoyed a fun day for them, not just doing something Mom and Dad said they had to do.
