Another of the temples we visited today is Ta Prohm, one of the sights from the Tomb Raider movie. Ta Prohm is the modern name of a temple built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara. It was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist
monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has
been left in much the same condition in which it was found.
This temple is greatly eroded, but is under restoration by a Indian company.
As they find stones, they number them and place them in different areas until they can reconstruct that full area.
This tree is growing out of the temple
A portion they are working on.
What a good bit of the temple grounds look like.
This guy asked David where we were from, and when David responded "Pyeongtaek" he about fell over. He said, "Pyeongtaek, really?! That is my home town!"
I thought it was cool to see these remains peeking out of the dirt.
These walls were jewel encrusted at one time - can you imagine?
Each one of these pock marks had a jewel in it!
