Lotus Latern Festival

Adventure weekend number two!  We headed off to Seoul via train to go to the Lotus Lantern Festival, which is part of a month-long celebration of Budda's birthday.  They had beautiful lanterns and a lot of different activities for the kids to do.  We would've liked to stay for the parade that night, but we were all pretty beat and knew we had a potentially long train ride home.

I don't know what the sign says, but they are dressed in traditional Korean (royal, I believe) clothing.
There were these lanterns everywhere.

More lanterns
According to Buddhist beliefs, the lighting of a lotus-shaped lantern symbolizes a devotion to performing good deeds and brings light to the dark parts of the world that are filled with agony. The lantern-lighting practice was developed throughout the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties and has been preserved through events such as the lotus lantern service (a Buddhist memorial service held nationwide) and the lotus lantern parade.
Beating on drums - and I didn't care about the noise! :)
"Temple" rubbings
First, they wet the paper,
Second, they beat it with a brush until the pattern in visible, and the paper pushed down into all the creavaces it is supposed to be in,
Then you dab it with an ink covered dauber to highlight the raised areas.

Lanterns at dusk - or at least in the shade.
This is a sign we saw on the subway - apparently there is a problem with raccoons smoking in Korea.
Our mode of transportation home.
They were all sold out of seats on the train for the remainder of the day, so we traveled between two cars in the portion where there was a bathroom.  Talk about hobos!  Despite the crowded quarters for about 45 minutes, we made it home no worse for wear.

Mother and Son Dance

Tonight my son took me on our first date.  We dressed up in our finest clothes and headed off to the Mother and Son dance.
I'm having trouble realizing that in a few short years I'm going to be looking up to this sweet boy.
Enjoying his yaki-mandu
Cuttin' a rug!
Oh how I love this boy!
Our number was drawn for a raffle and I won these beautiful flowers.
After the dance, we headed out for ice cream with some friends.
Drew, Joshua, and Tristan

I was so glad to have some time to spend one on one with Tristan since there aren't a whole lot of things for just the two of us to do, especially since everyone is home all the time now.  I am so very thankful that the Lord blessed us with our wonderful boy - there is just something different and wonderful about a son's love for his mother.  Thank you, Tristan, for being my protector, for always standing up for me when your daddy is picking on me, for being so kind and generous to others, for a wonderful evening, and just for being you.  Your are amazing - I love you!!

Everland in the Spring

David started a new job this week, and one of the first items on the agenda was a company trip to Everland.  I think I'm gonna like this new job!
We tend to spoil the kids when we do these things, so first up was face painting.
The kids love the ball area.  Even Naomi enjoyed it.
Putting the balls in the vaccum tube so they will drop on them...
...and their work paid off!
There is nothing better than a child's smile of pure joy.
Naomi's first carousel ride
We also went on a safari.
Enemies in the wild, both in the same pen, focused on the same object.
A liger
And I thought this was just another hilarious translation...
There really is a "jackass penguin"!
I loved this pop of red in all of the green.
This is what a tired boy looks like!
He came straight home and crawled in bed - didn't even bother getting in his pajamas.
