Grace started first grade on Monday. She wasn't so sure she was excited about school this year because it was going to be a lot of work and there weren't going to be toys like there were in kindergarten. Some of her anxiety was eased when she met her teacher on Friday - and a lot of my anxiety was eased since she was an answer to my prayers. Going from a Christian school to a public school was a bit of a stressor, but we didn't have much of a choice since the private schools here are incredibly expensive! So, I've been praying, knowing that God would put Grace where she needed to be, but I really wanted her to at least have a Christian teacher (even if God's Word isn't taught in the school) - and when we walked in to meet her teacher on Friday I was face to face with a lady thay I had worked at VBS with! Praise God!!

Today Grace's teacher asked if I might stay and help today while she did some testing with the kids individually, so I gladly obliged. Tristan had a great time hangin' out with the big kids, and I got a chance to interact with the kids in Grace's class.
We had about an hour to kill after all the testing was done, so Tristan and I headed over to the playground to burn off some pent up energy after sitting in a classroom all day.
After school today, Grace had her first ballet class in Korea.
Despite the fact that it is an English ballet class, she is the only American in the class.
But that didn't deter her at all!
Oh yes, she loves first grade too - she came home after the first day and said that she liked it much more than she expected to. Hooray!
Oh! I almost forgot to mention that we weathered our first typhoon too! I don't know what category it was, but the worst of it hit to the north of us. All we suffered were strong winds that resulted in downed trees and a little bit of rain (I've seen more rain from a monsoon rain here than we got from this typhoon). But, I'll take it! Thanks everyone for your concern and prayers.

Danielle, It is hard to believe our girls are in the first grade already! Where did the time go? Grace looks so grown up at school and so beautiful in ballet. When did she get glasses? Really enjoyed reading about and seeing pics of the kids - as an Army brat, I remember the different situations I experienced and especially moving to Okinawa and going to Japan (I remember those typhoons - glad you weren't in the worst of ...it). It really was a wonderful adventure and it seems that your children are thriving in their new environment, but then they have great parents who are encouraging lots of new things in a new country. Glad to hear that Grace's first grade experience is such a happy one and with a teacher who is a Christian. Sounds as if you are going to be her right hand Mom! Sherry Nowell
